I have been reading through the book of James in preparation for the studies we will be doing on Sunday mornings. There are a few areas that I have been praying through as a result. One of those areas is the call for the elders that James mentions in closing the book.
James 5:14, Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
The elders of the New Testament were a group of men who were leaders and had authority in the church. Here at Calvary Chapel Living Water that group of men is also known as the board of directors. The church board meets regularly to pray for the church body, to discuss, plan, and make the decisions that need to be made for the church to continue to operate.
Board Of Directors:
James is a practical book that calls us to be doers of the Word, and not just hearers. He calls us to live it out, and put it in practice. In light of that we want to make available to you opportunities to call for the elders to pray over you. For this season, as we study the book of James, members of the church board and their wives will be available to pray over you after our Sunday morning services.
There are many other men and women who are a vital part of the work of God here at CCLW. Every member of the body is absolutely essential. God has also given specific roles and responsibilities to the church that are fulfilled by these men.
I encourage you to take some time to meet these men, and if you need prayer, just ask. Our prayer is that you would be blessed as we seek to live out the Word of God together.
