Genesis 16:12, Prophecy Of Ishmael

Question: I don't think I understand the meaning to Genesis 16:12. How is he a wild man and what do they mean his hand shall be against every man and every man's against him and then it says he will dwell in the presence of all his brethren. Answer: I am sure there was some specific details of Ishmael's life that God is prophesying about, but generally speaking I think it means that he was going to have a rough life. He will be dwelling with and around his brethren, but not get along with them. It is interesting to carry this prophecy forward thru history and see how the Arab nations (descendants of Ishmael) have been so strongly against Israel (descendants of Isaac). -PJ
