Leviticus 11, Why did God prohibit eating unclean animals?

Question: Did God prohibit eating unclean animals etc because other cultures used them as object of worship and scarifice or were there other reason? Answer: God does not tell us exactly why. Most commentators agree that the laws were related to the health of the people, connecting it to the promise of Exodus 15:26 that they will have "none of the diseases" that were in Egypt. That fits the language and context well. I do not think it had to do with the worship of other cultures, because they also worshiped animals that God declared were clean. -PJ
