Numbers 3:46-51, Was the redemption money a form of taxes?

Question: Was the redemption money (v46-51) a form of taxes? Answer: This was not a form of taxes. It was not about raising money, but redeeming the people. God spared all of their firstborns in Egypt, so they belonged to God. But God chose the whole tribe of Levi instead of all the firstborns (v45). Since it was not exactly the same number, the extra had to be redeemed. This was a one-time payment. -PJ
