Numbers 12, Why were Miriam and Aaron so upset about Moses' marriage to an Ethiopian woman?

Question: Why were Miriam and Aaron so upset about Moses' marriage to an Ethiopian woman?  And why wasn't Aaron punished along with Miriam?  Wasn't he just as guilty? Answer: I believe their real issue was stated in verse 3, they were challenging Moses' spiritual authority.  Moses' wife was just a petty or false accusation.  The real problem was they were interested in promoting themselves.  We see their pride verses God seeing Moses as a very humble man.  The verb used here for spoke is the feminine tense and the placement of her name before that of Aaron indicate that Miriam is the leader in the attack against Moses.  Therefore she received the more severe punishment.  -PG
