2 Samuel 18:9, Why does it say Absalom was taken between heaven and earth?

Question: Why in verse 9 does it say Absalom was taken between heaven and earth?Answer: The King James Version uses the phrase, ‘and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth’.  The Hebrew word used here is nathan.  It basically means to put on or to set.  The New King James Version translates this portion more simply, ‘so he was left hanging between heaven and earth.’  So it may be that God “put” Absalom in the tree, but whatever the case we understand that he was stuck hanging mid-air in the terebinth tree.  -PG
