“And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings” –Act 17:26 (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul declares that all humanity has descended from Adam and Eve. That is a bold statement! The book of Genesis agrees, as it gives the record of Adam and Eve as the first man and woman, and names Eve the mother of all the living (Genesis 3:20). Genesis also records the preserving of Noah and his family in the flood, where the whole earth is repopulated by Noah’s three sons and their wives. This raises questions for many people. How did people get to all the various and remote places on Earth? Why are there so many different languages? How can we have different races?

Different Locations & Languages

After the flood, the families of Noah’s sons spread out into different regions and locations. See Genesis 10.

Genesis 11 gives us some more insight as it records the account of the tower of Babel. Genesis 11:8 tells us that God scattered the people all around the whole earth.

That was also the origin of different languages. Until then, all humanity had one language. From Genesis 11:7 we learn that God changed the language of people in an instant and without notice.

Different Skin Colors

Skin color is an easily visible difference between people groups and has been the source of much conflict throughout history. How could we all descend from Adam and Eve and have such variety? The difference in skin color is actually not different than any other hereditary trait, because skin color is determined by how much melanin a body produces. Each person’s genetic code tells their body to produce a certain amount of melanin, if little is produced the result is light skin and more produced results in darker skin. The amount produced is a hereditary trait just like eye color, nose shape, hair color, etc. You can find much more information on this at the following website created by the people from Answers In Genesis: www.onehumanrace.com
