John 14:16-17, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (NKJV)
Acts 1:8, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit is with you! This relationship with the Holy Spirit is true of every person, whether they believe in Jesus or not. Jesus explains in John 16:7-15 that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment.
The Holy Spirit is in you! This relationship with the Holy Spirit is true for all believers. Those who put their faith in Jesus Christ have the Spirit dwelling within them. Paul describes this as the guarantee of our salvation (2 Corinthians 1:20-22, Ephesians 1:13-14).
The Holy Spirit will come upon you! This relationship with the Holy Spirit is available for all believers. In fact, Paul commands us to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). The empowering of the Holy Spirit is described in the Bible in these three ways, the Spirit coming upon you, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and the filling of the Spirit.
