Genesis 40:23, Why did the cup bearer forget about Joseph?

Question: Why did the chief cup Bearear forgot to talk about Joseph to the Pharaoh, Joseph told him in 40:14 And please remember me and do me a favor when things go well for you. Mention me to Pharaoh, so he might let me out of this place. In v.23Pharaoh's chief cup-bearer, however, forgot all about Joseph, never giving him another thought. Answer: The chief butler intended to help Joseph. We can see that from Genesis 41:9 where he says, "I remember my faults this day" when he did remember Joseph. So it must have been that he forgot while he was caught up in the celebration of being released and the relief of not being put to death. Ultimately, we know that God was at work, and the timing was not right for Joseph to be released yet. So the cup bearer remembered Joseph at exactly the time God wanted him to. -PJ
