Question: In Genesis 2:24, "therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shal become one flesh" - is this verse talking to us or Adam? I ask because Adam didn't have parents (a father and mother). God created him... It's just a trivial question.
Answer: This verse is instruction for us. Adam and Eve are the example of what God intends for a marriage. Jesus quoted this verse as He taught about marriage, Matthew 19:3-9. And Paul quotes it in Ephesians 5:28-31. The point of leaving father and mother is always connected to them becoming "one flesh". Because they become "one flesh", they are to leave father and mother. -PJ
